Following the migrant influx in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta and the resulting deaths, the European Union is considering stepping up border protection and discussing new measures. This was said by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who urged action.

Ceuta Crisis Reveals Political Differences in Europe

The recent immigration incident has also revealed political differences within the European Union.

Italy decided to suspend its travel agreement with Spain within the Schengen framework due to the increased influx, with Finland and Denmark supporting the decision. Meanwhile, the Czech leadership demanded the temporary suspension of Spain from the Schengen area.

PM Sánchez said that Ceuta was not part of the Schengen zone although it belonged to Spain.

According to him, some European countries politicized the problem instead of showing solidarity with Spain.

Security Measures Implemented in Spain
