Former President Farmajo, who is involved in a coup attempt, considers it essential to have a working relationship with James Swan, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).
Swan, who lied to the United Nations about Somalia’s election, should have been ejected from the nation, but following his meeting with Farmajo, it appears that the matter has been buried. Instead, Jawes Swan is thought to have a tight relationship with the former Somali President, Farmajo, according to reports.

Farmajo is a specific interest of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia, Mr. Swan. He has gone frequently to Baidoa, Dhusamareb, and Garowe, as well as talks with regional administration leaders, to resolve the deadlock over the elections. However, this did not work out since several regions were strong in their opposition to the plan.
For a party like James Swan’s, it is not favorable to peace. Following nearly thirty years of turbulence, the Somali people continue to live in fear, with hundreds of thousands of people killed and millions of others forced to flee their homes. The United Nations has largely expressed displeasure with its failure to intervene in their best interests. As many parties continue to battle for control of the country, many people believe that Somalia has been the United Nations’ most significant diplomatic failure to this point.
