Why Would Dangote Use the IPO Money?
The funds will be used to expand the refinery’s operations.
Currently, the refinery can process about 650,000 barrels per day, but there are plans to raise the capacity to around 1.4 million barrels per day.
This expansion would enable the refinery to process more crude oil and distribute the refined petroleum to Nigeria and other regions.
The IPO will do much more than just a simple share flotation. It will be a fundraising event for the energy project that has become very strategic for Nigeria.
How Can One Acquire Dangote Refinery Shares?
Investors have to wait until the formal documents of the offer are released before paying money and making an application.
1. Work with a licensed stockbroker
This is because the investors will be required to work with the authorized Nigerian capital market operator or stockbroker participating in the offer.
Don’t be taken by offers from social media agents who guarantee you that you’ll be allocated shares.
2. Open a CSCS account
This is the account where the investor’s securities are electronically held in Nigeria. The investors have to make sure their information is registered.
3. Pay into the account before the offer commences
After the official subscription is announced, the investors will have to pay into the approved broker’s account following the rules of the prospectus.
Since the ₦525 price is set, an investor purchasing 100 shares will have to pay ₦52,500.
4. Go through the official prospectus
The prospectus would contain accurate data relating to the eligibility criteria, minimum subscription amount, allocation, payment process, risks, and the subscription deadline.
This is especially relevant as the SEC had earlier raised the alarm over the circulation of unsanctioned promotional activities and advance payment solicitations for the Dangote Refinery IPO.
Why the Dangote IPO Is Important
The IPO is likely to turn out to be a landmark event in the Nigerian capital market as it provides the opportunity for public investment in one of the most critical industrial facilities of the country.
Furthermore, the facility is seeking to scale up its operations. As per Reuters, the capacity would be increased significantly to 1.4 million barrels per day.
Nevertheless, even the significance of the IPO and its size would not reduce the investment risk. The refinery’s valuation, profitability, crude oil availability, and expansion expenditure would all have to be considered when valuing ₦525.
