South African beloved and famous rapper Kiernan Forbes, also known as ‘AKA’, was shot dead outside a popular restaurant in Durban, a coastal city in eastern South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province, on Saturday.
Many South African artists and celebrities have posted “broken heart” emojis on social media, condoling the death of rapper AKA. The rapper’s family also posted a statement on his official Twitter account to condole his death.
The family said in a statement, “It is with extreme sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved son.” They said that they were awaiting further details from the Durban police.
The rapper was just 35 years old. KwaZulu-Natal police said that the rapper was shot dead when he was leaving a restaurant on Florida Road. According to media reports and local sources, Kiernan Forbes was the target of a drive-by shooting that took place outside a restaurant on Friday night.
A first responder at the scene told the media that the rapper was shot dead when he was standing on the pavement after 22:00. According to local media, the rapper was shot six times.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda reportedly said, “I can confirm that two men were killed. Police will not be releasing any names of the victims until a full investigation of the whole matter is completed.”
Some media reports said that a close friend of the rapper also lost his life in the shooting. Reportedly, the rapper’s bodyguard also sustained injuries due to the tragic incident.

Many people have poured tribute to the rapper on his Instagram page. One person wrote in his last post, “May heaven welcome you with open arms, I am sorry & rest in eternal peace!”
